Rental Assistance

Housing Choice Voucher

This program is an income based rental assistance program administered by the Red Wing HRA.  Eligible participants receive a voucher to find a private rental unit within the City of Red Wing, and pay 30% – 40% of their adjusted gross income towards rent.  The remaining portion is paid by the HRA directly to the landlord.

Minnesota Bring it Home Rental Assistance 

Under Minnesota’s Bring It Home Rental Assistance Program, households are eligible to apply for the BIH Rental Assistance Program if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • Are a Minnesota resident;
  • Have an annual income of up to 50% of the area median income as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), adjusted for family size;
  •  Pay more than 30% of the household’s annual income on rent;
  •  Are not receiving federal tenant-based assistance under Section 8 of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, as amended; and
  • Are not currently in a unit receiving project-based assistance under Section 8 of the US. Housing Act of 1937, as amended.

Bridges

Bridges Rental Assistance Program provides temporary rental assistance for low income adults diagnosed with a mental illness while they wait for a Housing Choice Voucher or another rental subsidy. Participants may use their voucher in the City of Red WIng only. Referrals are received from Goodhue County Social Services and Coordinated Entry*. To be assessed for Coordinated Entry please contact Three Rivers Community Action.

Many homeless programs in Minnesota receive their referrals through Coordinated Entry*.

If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless you may qualify to have a Coordinated Entry assessment.  The assessment prioritizes households for referral to programs.  You may call Three Rivers to schedule and assessment.
